Is it Going to be a Cold Winter, Sammy?
There he was, poking his head out from the shrubs as we walked along South cove in Battery Park City.
Sammy, the squirrel lives in an acorn-less area just behind South Cove. Howard and I would usually pick up some acorns on North Cove, where they are in abundance, and bring them to the South Cove.
We call it our morning ‘Communist Project’, spreading the ‘Acorn Wealth’.
Karen, our yoga teacher shared with us that Squirrels could sense if it is going to be a cold winter. They would try to store as much food (mainly nuts) as they could before the winter if they sensed that it is going to be nasty one. So, we started to look out for Sammy and his friends to see if they have been gorging themselves silly this fall.
Yes, people rely on the meteorologists, and we really on good old Sammy. We have not noticed the binge eating and storing as yet.
However, news has been recently released that this winter might be one of the coldest winters ever or the coldest in this decade for the Northeast.
If this is true, Sammy, quick go stock up!
